Ray Wager

I moved to the Eden Valley after retiring from a career as a solicitor in local government.  I have always enjoyed painting and have been able to spend more time in retirement.  I am particularly drawn to landscape painting, mostly using acrylic paints but sometimes oils or watercolours and sometimes ringing the changes with pastels or pencils.  I have exhibited with Penrith Art Club and the Culgaith Art Group – it is gratifying when someone likes your work enough to buy it!

Here's an interviewed I had with Ray.

'Wildflower Meadow'
Collage and acrylic paint  - 40x40cms box canvas  £85
During the winter I experimented with using leaves, grasses, seed pods etc from the garden and verges applied to canvas as a basis for a series of collages.  'Wildflower Meadow' is one of these.

'Rydal in Autumn'
Acrylics - 39x49cm framed £120
Many of my paintings are landscapes inspired by the Lake District or Eden Valley.  In 'Rydal in Autumn' I aimed to capture the warm colours of autumn and the serenity of Rydal Water.

'Cottages at Caldbeck'
Charcoal - 44x54cm framed £60
I also enjoy pastels, charcoal and pencil.  'Cottages at Caldbeck' is rendered in charcoal – black and white is often more expressive than colour!

Picture
'Blencathra from the Eden Valley'
35x59cm framed £120
The panoramic format is particularly suited to landscape painting.
This is a view from the Langwathby to Culgaith Road.- with some artistic licence!

'Langstrathdale'
35x59cms framed
One of my favourite places in the Lake District
