Bettie Gray
I have lived in Cumbria since 1990 and produced a number of paintings using a variety of subjects & varied media. During my membership, Art Club workshops have proved invaluable. Flowers frequently inspire me although landscape & still-life interest me greatly. Life drawing has until quite recently been part of the discipline & enjoyment of creating a piece of work. Papier-mache was something I discovered when joining the Cumbria Opera team then in existence in order to create various items for the stage. This was followed up by a commission to create a full sized Crinoline clad female to be used in a Special Flower arranging competition in Manchester. Over the years I have done some silk-painting, creating scarves, ties & bow ties selling a number at craft fairs & home held charity coffee mornings. |
The bed –heads I made from shaped Fibre-board using paint & prepared paper are still in use after many years.
The W.I millennium wall-hanging in Wreay Village Hall occupied much of my time for almost 2 years. Delays occurred due to the foot &mouth epidemic. I enjoy being a member of Penrith Art Club having enrolled around 1992? I also attend Dalston Art Group & am a member of Carlisle & Border Art Society. I exhibit with these groups & have arranged several exhibitions in Wreay Village Hall for members to participate. The most recent exhibition in which I was involved was held in the Sarah Losh visitor centre in Wreay.
I will be interviewing Betty over the coming weeks so please visit the 'News' section for my chat with Betty
