Barbara Hitch
This is Barbara painting on Penrith Train Station for the first “Paint Penrith In A Day” competition organised by Eden Valley Artistic Network. The weather forecast was dire so Barbara chose a sheltered location, and in doing so was plied with regular hot tea and coffee courtesy of the station staff! Barbara has since painted over this painting.

"The Musgrave Monument" 54x44cm
£195 (inc frame) I was attracted by the contrasting light and shadow of our striking and picturesque town centre. After sketching on site I took a photograph and painted this In my studio. |
"Going up 1” Acrylic 34x28cm £60 (inc frame)
The Ladies Walk is on my doorstep and therefore a regular short exercise route. The huge beech trees along the field edge are magnificent and there are many opportunities for sketching either by the river or in the woods. The two short flights of steps have always attracted me and I sometimes wonder how many ladies in long dresses climbed up these steps in days gone by! This abstract interpretation is just for fun. |
“Can’t catch me” Oil 48x40cm Mounted £65
A snowy day in Edenhall makes a great opportunity to play with light which I tried to do here. The landscape is fairly true with maybe a couple of extra distant trees, although the big oak tree has since lost a branch or two. |
“Blue Tarpaulins” Acrylic 46x38cm Including frame £175
This is the second version of a painting on location at Waterside farm by Ullswater, done in early evening light in summer. I try to give an impression of what I see and the atmosphere of the place rather than Painting too much detail. I hope it worked?! |
“Buttercups and Daises 2” 50x40cm Unframed £95
Periodically I have an urge to paint a quirky, fun picture which invariably begins with Cross Fell and the contours of the fellside. I always think that the black and white cows, although stylised, make a great contrast to the surrounding scenery!
