Heidi, in her own words:-
I took up painting about 8 years ago and attended classes run by Sarah Colegate and I now go to classes in Langwathby Village Hall. Like many painters, I started with watercolours but over the past few years I have loved experimenting with acrylics, inks and pastels. I really enjoy trying out new techniques and love using granulation medium, which is why, I think, I especially like Daniel Smith watercolours  as they produce some interesting effects.  I have recently also discovered Roman Szmal paints , who has some unusual colours, and, as they come in pans rather than tubes, I'm using them in my travel palette. I feel fortunate to live in an area where there are some great subjects for painting at all times of the year.
SECOND PLACE - Isabel Tiffin - Yesnaby Castle

Isabel, in her own words
As a native Cumbrian living in the Eden Valley, I have a strong affinity with open landscapes and ancient moorland. Early childhood memories include frequent visits to remote Scottish Islands and Highlands, especially coastal regions. As a result these have been the focus for much of my work over the years. Drawing and painting with my Father from an early age nurtured a life long appreciation of painting. I paint mainly in watercolour and oil and have been influenced by Len Roope and Philip Macleod Coupe who introduced me to oil painting and his indepth knowledge of the Scottish Colourists. The painting groups I belong to are, Philip Macleod Coupes group, Cumbria Colourists and the Sustained Painters in Tirril

JOINT THIRD PLACE - Diana Smith - Tender is the night
Diana, in her own words.
I am a semi abstract mixed media artist with a passion for colour, texture and line. Working in water based media, I enjoy the challenge of pushing myself to explore different ways of expressing this passion following my intuition and constantly asking ‘what if?’ Drawing, sketching and mark making are an important part of my preliminary work.

The landscapes of Cumbria the Outer Hebrides have been my primary source of inspiration but recently I have branched out into some floral experiments.

Though art was never part of my formal education (I trained as an Agricultural Economist), I have always had an interest in creative arts ranging from taking classes in Calligraphy and Bookbinding to a City and Guilds Diploma in Creative Textiles while I was bringing up a young family. I took up painting nine years ago after moving to Cumbria.

I am always hungry for new ideas and techniques and attend day workshops such as those run by PAC and from time to time attend residential courses at Higham Hall.

I am an active member of the Watermillock Painting Group which ( in ‘normal ‘ times ) meets weekly on Wednesday afternoons. Group members have a wide range of talents and the club is renowned for its cakes and soups as well as its art. The annual Art Cafe usually held over the Easter weekend is always a huge success. Sadly I am not one of the group's ’star bakers’!
